Aura Industry Trends - September 2023
We believe that having access to the latest hiring data can unlock valuable insights into recruitment trends.

Every month, we analyze the latest publicly available job posting data to look for overall shifts by geography & sector, as well as uncovering trends in particular skills or job attributes like AI or remote jobs. These trends can help to strategically guide your next move, regardless of whether you are an employer or candidate.
Here are three of the most interesting findings from September’s job posting figures:
US September new job postings down, despite job economy growth
Between August and September, new job postings declined in North America by 13% and Latin America by 18%, while they increased in the EMEA region by 11% and APAC by 4%. In the US, this decline was felt across the majority of states. Considering, however, that the US economy has in fact increased hirings in September, this may represent a significant shift away from public job postings towards more private recruitment channels (e.g. direct contact with candidates, targeting of specific talent pools), or may predict a potential drop in jobs in the coming months as these September job postings eventually become hirings.
AI-related roles continue to climb
The continuing rise of AI as a workplace skill of importance is evident in the job posting data. The absolute number of new AI-related postings and the proportion of software jobs requiring AI skills have both seen upwards trends over the past six months, with growth especially in Higher Education (+83%) and Marketing & Advertising (+46%). This is aligned with the recent advent of Generative AI, its growing business use cases, and subsequently its potential impact on creative functions like Marketing.
Public sector roles may be becoming more remote-friendly
Interestingly, we are seeing a rise in new remote job postings for Government Administration roles (+28%). While historically, governmental bodies operated very much on-site in capital or major cities, remote working enablers (e.g. digital meeting tools, cloud applications) have enabled more flexible working norms that can be less office-based. As a result, governments may be able to reduce costs, maintain or even improve access to more remote areas (i.e. without necessarily needing physical presence), and access a wider talent pool.
